Orthotics Can Be Customized to Your Feet

Custom made orthotics are used for many purposes, they primarily provide your foot and ankle a more stable structure to allow for your body’s movements to become more fluid, precise, and thus aligning you from back, hips, knee, and of course the foot and ankle.

Custom orthotics are not ONLY for those that are suffering from pains, strains, and/or fatigue BUT can also reduce long-term wear and tear on the essential joints helping to prevent conditions such as arthritis, allowing you to continue living your active lifestyle for many years to come.

Custom orthotic are NOT all created equal. You will find many outlets for obtaining orthotics or braces, BUT the Doctors at Austin Foot & Ankle Center are the ONLY office in Austin providing the latest in advanced 3D imaging. Visiting us will assure the most accurate, molded, and contoured orthotics for many years to come.

How Do Shoe Inserts and Pre-molded Insoles Compare to Custom Orthotics?

Retail inserts (also called insoles) are manufactured from nothing more than different thickness cellular sponge and/or foam rubber materials. They may provide some shock absorption, but scarce (if any) therapeutic biomechanical correction. If you can bend an insert in half, it is nothing more than an insole. A synonym for an insole is a pad.

The major difference between custom and pre-molded orthotics and inserts is that pre-molded orthotics are formed on (standard) wood arch models by shoe size, as opposed to an exact 3D image of your foot. This important difference allows mass production of these pre-molded orthotics. Because they are mass produced to manikin standards they are less expensive to the consumer.

These pre-molded devices can help control abnormal foot motion. The difficulty, because there is no standardization for the fabrication of these inserts and pre-molded orthotics, is to find the make and style that helps you! Over time, because they do not properly or ideally correct the underlying problem (your actual and specific biomechanical problems) the foots motion (when the arch collapses too much and the foot rotates too far inward) will still lead to the development of problems such as Achilles tendinitis, bunions, Morton’s neuroma, heel spurs, metatarsalgia, plantar fasciitis (heel and arch injury), post-tib tendinitis, shin splints, tarsal tunnel syndrome, as well as knee pain (chondromalacia, iliotibial band syndrome), hip pain and lower back pain. OR they will simply alleviate symptoms for the short term which will buy you a short reprieve from the pain and discomfort.

Our custom devices are true medical grade (biomechanical) corrective orthotics. They are manufactured from your digital data into your custom orthotics. They utilize hi-tech polymer shells (that never lose shape or memory) for arch support and biomechanical control and are covered with a special cellular cushioning material which provides excellent shock absorption, comfort and protection. And they are designed for specific activities. These have a life expectancy of 5-8 years and can be reconditioned.
